Is Sisal Suitable for a Stair Carpet

Sisal is a very durable and hard wearing floor covering but we are regularly asked - can I use sisal as a stair carpet?
If you are considering sisal for a flooring the usual reason it is chosen is for the way it looks. This natural flooring has been championed by many interior designers over the years and always features in the leading lifestyle glossy magazines. However it is important to note that it not only looks good but it performs well.
Most sisal ranges are classified as heavy domestic and are suitable for use all over the home but it is not recommended for use in areas that have high moisture such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Sisal can be used on stairs and will perform very well, particularly when proffessionally installed. Care must be taken to use a good quality firm underlay and that the carpet is firmly secured.
Many people think sisal carpet is a product that is not suitable for a stair carpet but this is not true. We think this false perception comes from the fact that seagrass is not suitable for stairs and people have just put the 2 products into the same category.
The best piece of advice we can give people who want to fit this flooring on stairs is to have it proffessionally installed and make sure that either short pin gripper rod is used or if standard grippers are used the fitter should make sure the spikes are "knoecked down" t make sure they do not protrude through the flooring and catch peoples feet!
At Floors4Home we have the best prices available on this product - starting at an amazing £16.99/SqM for some of the most popular colours - we bring sisal down to the same price as a wool carpet.
